The Finnish Company presented at ISE 2019 an interesting novelty: the new high-SPL S360 active loudspeaker, which combines compactness and quality for all applications requiring a faithful reproduction of sound. Very interesting also the new Smart IP open network platform.
At ISE 2019 there was the absolute debut of the latest novelty by Genelec, the high-SPL active loudspeaker S360, designed for any installation environment that requires high quality both in music and voice reproduction in a compact form factor – meaning that Genelec performance can now be extended to a wider range of applications, including lecture halls, auditoria, bars and clubs, live music performance, studio theatres and courtrooms.
Housed in a compact low diffraction enclosure with premium quality Finnish woodwork, the S360 features an enhanced 10-inch high efficiency woofer and 1.7-inch compression tweeter. This results in Genelec’s famed neutral reproduction and a short-term SPL capability of 118 dB, with peaks even higher, plus a long-throw capability that delivers studio quality accuracy at listening distances of over 10 metres.
The S360’s tight integration with Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software allows integrators to configure, auto-calibrate, supervise and control every unit in installations of any size. As a result, the S360 can be combined with any other Genelec smart loudspeakers to create large systems.
The S360 comes with an extensive range of mounting possibilities, including free-standing, in-wall, on-wall, ceiling and truss options – making it an attractive proposition to integrators looking to combine Genelec quality with high power handling capabilities in any fixed installation environment. Further flexibility comes courtesy of the system electronics, which can be ordered either integrated into the enclosure or positioned remotely via a 2U 19” rack kit.
The addition of a complementary Genelec subwoofer – such as the 7382 – enhances system performance even further, delivering low distortion reproduction with unrivalled clarity.
Another interesting novelty is the new open IP network technology platform called Smart IP, specifically aimed at the installation market and will deliver power, audio and scalable loudspeaker system configuration, supervision and calibration features via a single standard CAT5 cable. This novel technology will be rolled out over a range of Genelec‘s installed audio loudspeakers, commencing in Q4 of this year. Based on IP and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), the Genelec technology platform includes a proprietary internal power supply that delivers much higher SPLs than was previously possible via any conventional PoE. Indeed, the Genelec solution is powerful enough to run small to medium sized systems.
During the ISE we spoke with Aki Makivirta, Genelec’s R&D Director: “The fair was a great success for us” – he said. “There were a lot of visitors and a lot of interest around our products, especially the new S360 speaker. Showing the products in operation and immersing visitors in authentic audio systems is the added value we have offered in this edition of ISE..”
And regarding the new Smart IP platform, Aki Makivirta said: “Integrators have a complete solution at their fingertips: the highest quality loudspeakers with onboard signal processing, integrated power amplifiers and automatic room calibration, all underpinned by Genelec’s renowned audio and build quality.”
