Examples of application of Artificial Intelligence never cease to amaze us: the latest we have heard of is in the field of jewellery, in Padua, Italy; here is the story
The business opened by the parents and carried on by the second generation, with innovative flair and spirit of initiative, this is the story of many Italian companies, and also that of the Sette jewellery store in Cadoneghe, in the province of Padua.
The son Marco, now 33 years old, is a gemmologist and knows a lot about gold and stones, but also about the world of AI (artificial intelligence), specialising in the design and creation of virtual artefacts. He explains how it works: ‘Over time we have realised creative processes starting from an idea, from a gemstone, and this with a precise objective: to give life to a piece of jewellery that has an emotional connection with the customer. But when you start with a stone, it’s not easy to get the person to visualise the finished form, and that’s where AI comes in: in a matter of minutes, starting with words, the software returns more detailed sketches than we could have made by hand”.
Once chosen, the design becomes a 3D printed model to touch and try on. And if all goes well, it’s on to practice: ‘You have to know the right thicknesses, the gems, but by combining AI with craftsmanship intelligence, the customer experience is unique. The magic is that you can bring very distant ideas closer together’.
