Usually news of this kind are published in the news section, but this time the announcement of the opening of a new virtual studio in Italy is the subject of the editorial: mirroring an increasingly evident trend – the use of LEDs for virtual production – and of a progressive rapprochement between what we used to call the ‘broadcast’ and the world of integration, the event deserves reflection
The Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia is the oldest film school in Western Europe, founded in 1935 in Rome with the aim of promote the art and technique of cinematography and filmmaking.
The institute has recently inaugurated – thanks to a collaboration with the Veneto Region – its new studio for virtual productions on the Island of San Servolo in Venice, which will be used to train its students in VP and XR technologies: techniques that are gaining a foothold in the entertainment industry, cinema advertising, events and media. The studio incorporates motion capture, motion tracking, virtual and augmented reality, 3D and augmented reality, 3D and LED from brands such as Movella Entertainment (Xsens, Manus™), Pixotope, Alfalite, NovaStar Technology and Epic Games (Unreal Engine).
In fact, the production of virtual content is no longer the sole preserve of the film or television, but refers to so many applications applications, from more traditional advertising to
content production for entertainment, art, corporate needs, etc. corporate needs, etc. During the past years, the Broadcast sector despite having so many points in common with the sector of Integration from the point of view of the technologies adopted, was perceived as a separate industry for market and operator-related reasons. Virtual production, the use of LED and of content management systems, the integration of LED and Lighting certainly also build a bridge from the point of view
of the market area. A new direction to follow with interest.
