Audio professionals certainly know the MAUI active column systems by LD Systems, a complete and compact PA solution. Easy to transport and to install, these systems well integrate into any type of environment and are famous for the vertical configuration of the arrays.
Other characteristics, going a little more into the technical data, are the digital processing of the signal and the amplification of the frequency bands thanks to separate power amplifiers, which allows to widen the emission angle, for a very uniform sound distribution. The MAUI family is now joined by the MAUI 44 G2, explicitly designed for the professional market.
MAUI 44 G2: main features
One of the declared objectives of the MAUI series is to make it easy to sound even large rooms with PA systems of limited size, easy to transport, install and integrate in every location. The novelty is that even the professional segment will benefit from the practicality and compactness of the MAUI system. Inside the MAUI 44 G2 column there are twelve full-range 3,5” neodymium speakers and four 1” HF drivers with waveguide, for a total power (RMS) of 1.500 Watt, a frequency response of 37 Hz to 20 kHz and a sound pressure of 132 dB. The cardioid structure typical of column elements and the possibility of carrying out a cardioid configuration also for the bass, thanks to an additional subwoofer, further enhance the professional vocation of MAUI44 G2. The cardioid column offers 18 dB rear damping and the cardioid mode of the subwoofers allows a rear damping of 15 dB.
As for the inputs, the MAUI 44 G2 offers two XLR IN connections and two XLR outputs, which allow you to perform the cable stereo configuration of two systems. An additional subwoofer can be connected to the SUB OUT output, while the power supply is guaranteed by the reliable PowerCON connection. In short, it’s an extremely performing and compact column PA system, designed for the needs of rentals, musicians, small clubs, festivals and outdoor parties as well as fixed installations.
Among the most interesting features, we mention the power factor correction of the upper drivers, which improve horizontal directionality while reducing the distortion factor and optimizing the sensitivity of the tweeters below the crossover frequency. The four tweeters, however, feature specially designed compression drivers, with a constant orientation waveguide and capable of offering coverage of 120° in amplitude and a 25° concentrated vertical directional. The structure of the waveguide, in short, is designed to provide more energy into the high frequencies, to serve the most distant listeners.
On board technologies and application particularities
Special features and on-board technologies make MAUI44 G2 even more unique, especially when they collaborate so closely. In fact, the TrueWireless stereo function simplifies the creation of fixed systems or the sound reinforcement of conference rooms. This technology allows professionals to connect, without cables, two systems for stereo playback. Bluetooth streaming in HD is possible thanks to aptX and AAC coding, while DynX DSP technology guarantees faithful sound reproduction, without distortion even at very high volumes.
Furthermore, the overall level and the subwoofer are individually adjustable, to obtain an adequately balanced sound in every situation, without sacrificing any element, from high sounds to bass, including mids. In particular, thanks to the bass reflex channels with optimized flow, the bass is very powerful. Another important feature offered by MAUI 44 G2 is the automatic configuration recognition. In case you need to remove the column to use the subwoofer in slave mode, the control display will automatically show the “slave” function and, for MAIN and SUB, functions such as Bluetooth and volume control will no longer be shown: a further touch of practicality and intuitiveness!
Transport and installation
MAUI 44 G2 is also characterized by ease of installation: designed for mobility applications, this audio system offers quick and particularly simple assembly, without having to use cables and stands, and only requires the use of special multipolar connections. The subwoofer housing, in birch plywood and polyurea coating, is practical and robust, while the aluminum column is light and powder coated.
Overall, the system does not exceed 48 kg in weight, with a reduction of 20% in weight compared to the previous model. Furthermore, in consideration of frequent movements, accessories are provided such as a special trolley and a carrying bag, as well as a case for the subwoofer, to ensure the best performance even in case of intensive use.
