Netatmo, a French company for smart home products, has been acquired by the Legrand brand, of which BTicino is the leader in Italy. In this way Legrand strengthens its presence in the Internet of Things and takes another step forward in the development of its Eliot program for connected solutions.
Legrand continues its strategy of external growth, announcing the agreement to acquire Netatmo, the French leader in smart home objects, of which Legrand has been a shareholder since 2015. Founded in 2011, Netatmo has about 225 employees and designs simple and intelligent products to make homes safer and more welcoming. Through its partnership “with Netatmo” with companies in the construction industry, Netatmo also creates smart solutions that integrate into the structure of the house and has thus developed, in collaboration with Legrand, multiple solutions for managing the connected home, such as Céliane with Netatmo and Living Now with Netatmo.
The acquisition of Netatmo, whose brand will be integrated into the Group’s portfolio, will allow Legrand to strengthen its presence in the smart home market and accelerate the development of Eliot, its program for connected solutions. In particular, Legrand will enrich its offer with new categories of smart home products, complementary to its own and high potential, and will expand its range of connected products thanks to the 1.3 million products in Netatmo’s assets. In addition, the 130 engineers at Netatmo will make their skills in the field of artificial intelligence, software integration in products and user experience available to Legrand R&D teams. Fred Potter, Founder and President of Netatmo, will become Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Legrand’s Eliot program.
Benoit Coquart, Legrand’s Chief Executive Officer, commented: “Legrand is pleased to welcome Netatmo’s teams, which we have already enjoyed appreciating talents and energy on the occasion of the joint development project that led to the launches of Céliane with Netatmo, Living Now with Netatmo and dooxie with Netatmo. The combined expertise of Legrand and Netatmo in the Internet of Things will allow us to accelerate the development of our connected offers and the high value in use.”
Fred Potter, Founder and President of Netatmo, added: “This acquisition will help us to realize the promises of the smart home and will support our ambition to see our solutions adopted by the largest number of people. Our teams will continue to develop new products and upgrade existing products with the same care to offer our users the best smart home experience.”
