JVC brings the performance of its renowned D-ILA projector technology to a wider customer base with the introduction of two new entry-level models.

The new entry-level lamp model offers 4K120p support and HDR10+ compatibility.

Milan, January 19, 2022 – JVC is bringing the performance of its renowned D-ILA projector technology to a wider customer base with the introduction of two new entry-level models. Both are lamp-based light sources; support 4K120p input; and are compatible with HDR10+ content. These two new models – DLA-NP5 for the Consumer series and DLA-RS1100 from the Professional line – also incorporate JVC’s famous proprietary DLA technology for truly exceptional native black levels and contrast.

These products round out JVC’s 2022 series of projectors, including the recently introduced 8K60p and 4K120p input BLU-Escent laser projectors. Specifically, for the Consumer series the DLA-NZ9, DLA-NZ8 and DLA-NZ7 and for the Professional series the DLA-RS4100, DLA-RS3100 and DLA-RS2100.

HDR10+ provides dynamic tone mapping for optimal enjoyment of a wide range of streaming content and 4K Blu Ray discs. 48 Gbps HDMI connectivity, with HDCP 2.3 content protection, is ideal for use with the latest gaming consoles.

The new DLA-NP5 and DLA-RS1100 projectors will be available in March 2022 at a suggested retail price of €6499.

Main Features:

1. 4K120p input with HDCP 2.3

1.1 Dual 48Gbps inputs with HDCP 2.3 provide future-proof connectivity and are ideal for next-generation devices such as gaming consoles.

1.2 High Speed LSI for 4K120p Input and Video Processing

4K120p input is becoming more useful every day and is effective in displaying high frame rate gaming content. Together with the low-latency mode, the projectors are able to deliver high-quality gaming on larger screens. The 0.69″ native 4K D-ILA device complements this with improved performance.

2.  High resolution and high contrast with the 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA device

DLA-NP5 and DLA-RS1100 are equipped with the same 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA device as used on premium JVC models.  The unique D-ILA technology enables optimal viewing even on large screens, with smooth, high-definition video expression characteristic of native 4K.

3. All-glass lens ideal for 4K resolutions

The DLA-NP5/RS1100 features an all-glass lens with a 65mm diameter and 17 elements in 15 groups to deliver high-resolution images that are always in focus at all angles of the screen.

4. High Dynamic Range (HDR) content

Support for HDR10+, which uses dynamic metadata alongside the HDR10 format used in Blu-Ray UHD and streaming, has been integrated. Both methods support a wider color gamut such as BT2020 and 10-bit color grading. The HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) format used for broadcasting is also available.

4.1 HDR10+ Support

With HDR10+, luminance information for each scene is integrated into the content as metadata, so tone mapping can be done on a scene-by-scene basis. This allows HDR images to be faithfully reproduced as intended by the authors. In comparison, HDR10, the basic standard for HDR playback, has only two pieces of information: MaxCLL (Maximum Content Light Level), which represents the maximum content brightness, and MaxFALL (Maximum Frame Average Light Level), which represents the brightest average frame.

4.2 JVC’s unique Frame Adapt HDR and Theater Optimizer

JVC’s Frame Adapt HDR performs dynamic tone mapping (frame by frame or scene by scene) based on HDR10 content analysis, while Theater Optimizer automatically performs optimal tone mapping based on the installation environment. 18-bit gamma processing eliminates tonal gradations in bright areas and brings out blacks in dark areas; it also reproduces smooth gradations with high precision. Together, these two unique functions deliver the best possible HDR image, automatically.

5. Auto Image Mode Select

Auto Picture Mode Select lets you preset your preferred picture mode for SDR (2D), SDR (3D), HDR and HLG. After this operation is completed, a fully automatic picture mode selection is ensured. The user only needs to enjoy their favorite content in the correct mode.

6. Clear Motion Drive: Proprietary Image Blur Reduction Technology

Clear Motion Drive is JVC’s proprietary image blur reduction technology. It now delivers smoother motion and greater precision by analyzing more frames of video than ever before. Combined with Motion Enhance, which optimizes D-ILA device control based on image motion, this technology improves 4K motion reproduction.

7. High Brightness and High Contrast

The two DLA-NP5/DLA-RS1100 models achieve a brightness of 1900 lumens using a 265W ultra-high pressure mercury vapor lamp and a highly efficient optical engine.

The D-ILA 4K devices and a metal grid optical engine achieve 40,000:1 native contrast. “Intelligent lens aperture” analyzes the input image and automatically controls the black level, enabling a dynamic contrast of 400,000:1. The combination of high dynamic range and high brightness delivers the outstanding images JVC is known for.

Other features

– ISF Certification. DLA-NP5/DLA-RS1100 projectors can be calibrated by ISF-certified engineers.

– The Installation Settings feature allows you to easily save and recall up to 10 types of installation adjustments. These include lens memory, pixel adjustment, and screen masks. In addition, you can set screen size and gain and form ratios.

– Automatic calibration allows you to optimize color and gamma performance. It requires an optional sensor and JVC calibration software, available as a free download.

– Screen setting mode corrects color imbalance caused by screen characteristics.
