Canon Europe celebrates the third birthday of Miraisha, one of its main sustainability programs, which has exceeded the quota of 3.000 participants in its training sessions and workshops. Miraisha aims to promote new professional opportunities in Africa through workshops for photographers, videographers, film-makers and print shop owners.

In May, a new initiative was inaugurated in collaboration with “The NRB Bus”: a London double-decker bus that will host several training workshops focusing on creativity in the Westlands district of Nairobi, Kenya. The bus will then make a roadshow for all of Kenya.

Stuart Poore, Head of Sustainability at Canon Europe, said: “The Miraisha program has made a lot of progress over the last 12 months. We are proud of its participants and the results they have achieved. It is exciting to be able to carry out further training courses in collaboration with The NRB Bus. The Miraisha program perfectly embodies our Kyosei business philosophy, living and working together for the common good. We are very committed to continuing our business in Africa.”

Among the other initiatives that Canon has made in the last year, yhere are “Train the Trainer” program, an “investment” in local trainers in African countries that currently involves 15 people, six of which already qualified as accredited trainers, and the “Storytelling Lab”, which last September brought Anthony Obayomi to win the National Geographic Photography Portfolio Review, at the LagosPhoto festival. During the original workshop, which took place in December 2016, Anthony had used the EOS 650D with different objectives. Thanks to this award and to the laboratory, today Anthony is now in contact with National Geographic and other international photo agencies.
