The new LAVA Center in the Icelandic town of Hvolsv\u00f6llur, 106 km East of Reykjavik, is a high-tech interactive exhibit illustrating volcanic activity and earthquakes and allowing you to follow Iceland\u2019s geological history over the past million years.<\/strong>
\nThe idea of the Center<\/strong> came to one of the founders on the occasion of the famous eruption, in April 2010<\/strong>, of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull,<\/strong> which caused the cancellation of all flights on the Atlantic Ocean<\/strong> and in most of Europe.<\/strong>
\nThe 2.500 sqm<\/strong> of LAVA Center<\/strong><\/a> was therefore designed and built as a fully immersive show. The location was chosen because it sits at the heart of some of the major Icelandic volcanos and allows five of the country\u2019s most iconic volcanoes to be seen.

\nThe AV equipment itself includes 14 Powersoft<\/a> amplifiers<\/strong> with DSP<\/strong> onboard providing an economic power station to drive the 72 ch<\/strong> of zonal ceiling and surface mount loudspeakers, all in one of the four racks in the centralised technical room. These models comprise Powersoft Ottocanali 1204<\/a> DSP+ETH, Quattrocanali 4804<\/a> DSP+D<\/strong> (for Dante<\/strong>) and Quattrocanali 2404<\/a> DSP+D,<\/strong> while to create the sonic realism of an earthquake project designers Jakob Kristinsson<\/strong> and Bergthor Leifsson<\/strong> used of the Italian manufacturer\u2019s mighty M-Force <\/strong><\/a>Magnetic Linear Motor Transducers. <\/strong>

\nM-Force<\/a><\/strong> simulates the eruption of a volcano thanks to two M-Drive<\/a> amplifiers<\/strong> that power two 15 kW mobile magnet transducers,<\/strong> in order to \u201cmove\u201d a floor measuring 150 x 300 cm<\/strong> on both X\/Y axes. It is the first time that M-Force<\/strong><\/a> is used for mechanical movement.

\nThere are 15 multi-channel<\/strong> audio zones in use at LAVA Center<\/a>,<\/strong> located in 10 rooms\/spaces<\/strong>, including an outdoor one \u2014 variously triggered by MediaMatrix<\/strong><\/a> and Presonus<\/strong><\/a> sound cards. This includes 80 Audac<\/a> speakers<\/strong>, 13 Audac<\/a> subwoofers, two Danley<\/a> subwoofers<\/strong>, 3 Panphonics<\/a> flat panels<\/strong> in the ceiling for spot audio, 8<\/strong> OnePoint\u00a0Audio<\/a> speakers,<\/strong> a 632 x<\/strong> 360cm Stewart Filmscreen Phantom HALR<\/a><\/strong> screen coupled with a 7.1 surround system<\/strong> sound card, for the movie theatre.
