The modernization of the railway stations of Bologna, Firenze, Verona, Genova and Venezia, promoted by GrandiStazioni Rail and Polfer (Railway Police), incudes the use of 34 Panasonic’s professional displays. The renovation process implemented at these five stations is inspired by the idea of applying the most advanced technology to support the work of the Railway Police, with video surveillance systems and professional monitoring displays as indispensable allies for agent work.

The Polfer’s control room hosted a series of videowalls formed by cubes based on lamp retroprojection technology. By replacing this costly and unreasonable equipment, Polfer has reduced the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and streamlined maintenance and control procedures. The company AVN Sistemi of Torino, which has implemented the project, has installed 34 narrow bezel Panasonic TH-47LFV5W 47-inch displays, in 3x2m standard configuration, with the exception of Bologna rail station, where it has a 5x2m videowall.

“Panasonic’s choice was determined by some fundamental prerogatives”, explained Mauro Destro of AVN Sistemi. “The first concerns image quality: IPS panel with Local Dimming backlight LED, brightness of 500 cd/m² and contrast ratio of 1.400: 1. The second is correlated to the viewing angle of 178°, both horizontal and vertical, so visibility is always high and the surveillance personnel have less fatigue of sight during the monitoring operations.”
