ATEM Television Studio 4K8 is one of the latest, exciting innovations from Blackmagic Design that Audio Effetti is pleased to introduce to all fans of the Australian company. It is a powerful 8-channel professional live production switcher that adds to the ATEM Television Studio range. It offers all the features already known from the HD models, with the exception of ISO recording, but with support of the 4K UHD standard up to 2160p60, 4:2:2 sampling and 10-bit color depth.
This switcher can count on 8 independent 12-G SDI inputs, each with its own standard converter, a Program output, SDI + HDMI Multiview outputs (configurable with 16, 13, 10, 7 or 4 panes to monitor program, preview, inputs, media players, DSK, SuperSource and clean feed), 8 + 2 auxiliary 12G-SDI outputs for external recorders, projectors and monitors, and an internal 4-port 10G Ethernet switch. Note that the 12G-SDI outputs are now aux, which gives the possibility of sending them to separate feeds. Thus, one can, for example, share live broadcast on LFDs and video projectors by taking advantage of the aux outputs.
Supports live streaming, master recorder, 2 x USB-C (for recording to external drives, webcams, control and software updates), 2 DVEs, 4 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyer, Talkback also over RJ45, and internal network storage (optional) on M.2 flash memory. Content saved on the internal storage (or USB disks) can be shared via the local Ethernet network, so those doing editing, color correction or graphics can get ahead of the curve with post-production. Recordings are in H.264 format with AAC audio, for broadcast-quality video and small file sizes.
Two different built-in encoders
The new Blackmagic Design switcher has a built-in streaming engine for broadcasting live events to global audiences. In fact, it integrates two video encoders, one 4K and one HD, which by exploiting Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) via Ethernet, allow, for example, to stream to YouTube in HD while simultaneously recording in 4K H.265 occupying only one channel, a very interesting feature indeed. Files played by media players can be uploaded as live video inputs and then streamed live.
Even more sophisticated audio section
As in the ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K, Television Studio 4K8 also integrates a Fairlight audio mixer, in this case 58 channels, with 6-band EQ, compressor, limiter, noise gate, levels and panning for each channel. The audio mixer is incredibly powerful and adjustable from the front panel via control knobs and a dedicated LCD display. ATEM Software Control can also be used to mix the audio.
Regarding the SDI outputs, each of which can carry–as we know–up to sixteen channels (8 pairs) of 48 kHz 24-bit digital audio, minus the program outputs and outputs 13 through 18 for communications, normally those 3 through 12 are not used for audio. Not on this model, which also has the option to manually route audio to the 16 channels built into the SDI outputs and can then embed it on those outputs as well, including the MADI channels. In other words, if you have several channels of audio coming from a mixer and you want to, for example, send it to a location recorder or mix-minus (N-1), you can now do so using all the SDI channels available on the output, which is a truly remarkable possibility!
So many different areas of use
ATEM Television Studio 4K8 is ideal for use on OB vans: since it is a compact yet extremely powerful product, it replaces several rack-mounted devices, allowing you to work in a convenient and uncluttered space. For the same reasons, clubs and live music venues will not be able to do without this switcher.
Even in the educational arena, ATEM Television Studio 4K8 has its uses. Indeed, it allows you to connect to programs such as Zoom and use live chat with students, supports USB webcams, and enables live streaming without burdening the computer’s CPU since it includes video encoders.
Finally, sports: thanks to its ease of use even by the inexperienced, this switcher lends itself particularly well to live sports broadcasting, thanks in part to its ability to manage up to 8 cameras. It can be installed in clubs or in mobile directorates inside stadiums.
