Once upon a time, communications between offshore platforms and onshore structures were very limited, a two-way radio for emergencies was a remarkable thing! Today’s technology allows for much more effective communication, and ATEN offers cutting-edge solutions
In the past, the life of offshore workers was objectively very hard: they were on platforms on the high seas and were mostly “cut off”, being able to count at most on a daily exchange of dispatches and on a simple two-way radio for any emergencies. Certainly, in those working conditions, they rediscovered how much communication is a fundamental factor for human beings. Moreover, in conditions of difficult communication, the risks of a job that is already not free from dangers increase considerably.
Today, however, offshore-onshore communication is much more reliable and faster, making platforms a safer workplace.
The ATEN solution for offshore platforms offers remote monitoring, secure access and expandability, with the ability to add additional surveillance workstations. To offer all this, of course, the basic condition is high connection flexibility. Here is the ATEN KVM over IP Matrix system, thanks to which control room operators can access and control multiple servers while individual workstations directly and securely monitor specific servers for targeted control requirements.
This system is based on products such as the Dual View KVM Extender KE6940, which allows access to a computer over IP. In fact, due to the extremely high cost of offshore personnel and the limited number of people allowed on a platform for safety reasons, it’s necessary that several computers are accessible both from a server room located on land and from different control rooms in different locations, close to the production plants. Dual View KVM Extender KE6940 makes the full control of a computer located on an offshore platform possible from a control room, and also supports dual console operation, allowing you to control the system from both the transmitter and the receiver. The AES-128BITS encryption guarantees the security of data transmission, but the extender also supports the authentication of remote users, offering visibility into all active users. Furthermore, all ATEN KE models have redundant power & LAN, very important features in this type of installation.
Finally, it’s impossible not to mention CCKM, ATEN’s KE management software. A very important element, because reliability is a fundamental factor in the management of offshore platforms, and a secure and foolproof software solution is a guarantee. CCKM ATEN’s KE matrix management software is used to centralize the control and management of KE series devices with an intuitive and web-based GUI. It is able to provide reliable data transmission through integrated redundancy factors, including automated backup of the server database and primary and secondary devices, as well as real-time database updating. Redundancy ensures that if a server hosting the Matrix KE management software goes down, the system will continue to function, as a redundant secondary server maintains all required services until the primary server is restored. But that’s not all, because the KE Matrix Management software also offers quick and easy control tools to configure KE devices, with advanced features such as multi-display, video grouping, fast switching, profile transmission and multimedia playback scheduling.
