Recently held in Genoa at the Fiera del Mare was Elrow, the Barcelona-born techno-party that in just a few years has become one of the most beloved and famous festivals in the world, thanks to a series of tours that have stopped in Ibiza, the rest of Europe, America, South Africa and even China, Japan and Australia, registering a huge influx of audiences (read more).
Among the artists at the console this year were Andrea Oliva – world-famous DJ/producer – and Englishman Nic Fanciulli, among the most admired DJs on the international scene, with even a Grammy nomination. Also igniting the Elrow Genova audience were celebrity DJs Toni Varga, Marc Maya, Amedeo Picone and Federico Guttadauro.
Providing the Outline sound system was once again Show Technologies TM of Recco, Genoa. The PA system consisted of 24 GTO + 2 GTO-DF systems (Downfill module), 20 Mantas, 20 Butterfly and 28 DBS 18-2 subwoofers, the latter in ‘end-fire’ array configuration.
Giancarlo ‘Jerry’ Paladini, PA manager, says, “After decades of working with Outline systems I will finally tell the truth: what a n-o-i-a! And I’ll explain why. Is it ever possible to be able to set up your sound design from the comfort of your [Outline Open Array 3D] couch at home, arrive on site, assemble, and find yourself what the simulator predicted with millisecond-busting accuracy? That explains the n-o-i-a. Joking aside, the area was gigantic (70 x 120 mt), full of people, and the ‘techno’ genre doesn’t discount anyone…yet today even a techno-event requires professional figures comparable to those of a pop concert. In this case we had the GTO. Thank goodness! There was not a corner that was not covered, and with adequate sound pressure. Had I had anything else on my hands I would have been afraid in this scenario. Trying is believing.”
