13 companies, 30 speakers, as many accredited information sessions for Architects, Engineers and Teachers, more than 250 participants and many insights into the renovation of structures and buildings of education: that’s in a nutshell what Smartbuilding.edu, the new project of Smart Building Italia and Connessioni that took place during the Didacta fair between last March 8 and 10, was all about.

The primary objective of the project was to bring to the fair the “Pro” realities related to education, with a program dedicated to them, so from professionals and consultants to the university and private and professional education realities, up to the technical offices of municipalities and provinces, often responsible for education buildings.

Dedicated to them was the training program, partly held in the form of a workshop, partly in the Arena, curated by Connections for Smartbuilding.edu, and generally designed for all those involved in the renovation of structures and buildings in the training world.

The first day was dedicated to “the envelope” and its management, with some contributions dedicated mainly to Architects, by Alessio Vannuzzi of Ohmega Progettazioni, KNX Tutor and Member CT 205 and 207 CEI, Pasquale Capezzuto President of the Energy Manager Association and Michele Vannuccini of Renerwave, on the design of smart environments, where automation also leads to energy savings as well as improved general management. Also discussed was the role of the System Integrator as the “glue” and coordinator of the professionalism involved in the design of intelligent environments, without forgetting his role as a consultant for solutions also suited to the dynamics of tomorrow.

The morning of March 9, titled We are all connected, discussed network infrastructures, the starting point of a broader discourse on how education, relying precisely on networks and connectivity, has changed downstream of the pandemic experience, and how to capitalize on what has been learned for today’s (and tomorrow’s) learning modes, thanks to the contribution of Marius B. Spinu, Fabrizio Fioravanti, and Guido Guidi of the University of Florence, respectively contact persons for Information and Computer Systems, the Systems, Cloud and Information Security Process Unit, and the University Multimedia Lab.

In the afternoon we instead talked about Lighting, how much it contributes to the quality of learning and, if well designed, to energy savings, with Alberto Fabbro Designer, Home & Building Automation Designer.

Friday, on the other hand, was all about Security, thanks to the program moderated by Raffaello Juvara of Securindex: of environments, people and networks; with Luca Girodo, Head of CCTV and Cybersecurity Division for Securindex, Lorenzo Barbarelli, consultant, Var4Advisory contributor, Stefano Gosetti, Vice President Vigilate, Andrea Lanna, Smart Buildings Alliance – Italy and Roberto Megazzini, Paso Sales Director, Member in the Technical Body UNI/CT 034/GL 04.

Each section was then expanded and enriched by various case studies and application insights by the companies that supported the project: from energy efficiency at the School of Casciana with Loytec to improving environments with A2A, from energy saving and wellness with BEG Luxomat to the concept of inclusive communication with STIM Tech Group, to recommendations for teachers by Gianmarco Malagoli for Etic (and Exertis), a teacher and consultant for schools on technology issues, on how to focus on the goals to be achieved and then provide tools and infrastructure in an informed and competent manner.
