Among the most active brands in the Made in Italy, there is certainly Eighteen Sound, who presented interesting novelties both in materials research and in constructive methods for its speakers
We start from the new line of neodymium driver, which presents new 3” models with different possibilities for the membrane, including the fascinating hypothesis of beryllium. The salient feature of these new drivers is low distortion, one of the lowest in their class. But even more interesting it is that it’s “self-centering” drivers. What does it mean? What in them it is possible to replace the membrane, in case of failure, by simply unscrewing a few screws. Simple: in them it’s possible to replace the membrane, in case of failure, by simply unscrewing a few screws. The membrane is in fact inserted in the base, and product design provides precisely that it can be removed together with the protective cover, and easily replaced, even while the speaker is in operation. Available for each model also a heavier ferrite version.
The greatest novelty by Eighteen Sound, however, relates to the well-known Tetra Coil family, opened by the model 18 TLW 3000, and now enriched by a new 21” model. The salient feature of this series (based on Eighteen Sound patents) is that compared to normal speaker, in which a coil is contained in a magnet, in these products the coils are two, greatly distanced and wrapped both inside and outside, thus offering a wide exploitable coil surface. The new 21” version is made of neodymium, to avoid using a too large and heavy magnet.
Beyond the products, deserves to be mentioned also the acquisition of Ciare, historic Italian brand of professional audio and car audio products founded in 1947. With this synergy, the product offering by Eighteen Sound significantly grows.
