The new ITC4000 intercom system proposed by Paso, is a candidate as one of the ‘hot’ products of phase 2: we have passed – though not everywhere – the peak of the Covid-19 epidemic, the need will now be to keep environments and people safe. The first and most effective method, while waiting for a vaccine, is to respect distances and hygiene rules, paying more attention than usual and relying on technology, which can truly represent a solution.
Distance does not mean we can’t communicate
People cannot avoid communicating, and there is no need to call into question the famous definitions of man as a ‘social animal.’ We know very well that this is a primary requirement, even just to ask for information or buy something. The new Paso ITC4000 system is part of this logic.
The door intercom allows easy communication between rooms divided by glass, plexiglass or other bulkheads. In short, an ideal product for structures where, for reasons of safety or hygiene, recent decrees impose a separation between the interlocutors: ticket offices, hospital counters, bank branches, guard rooms, reception, etc.
Flexibility and quality
Let’s go into a little more detail. The new system is based on microprocessor management, and is distinguished by the hands-free ‘TALK-LISTEN HALF DUPLEX’ (alternate bidirectional transmission) operating mode, managed by a special algorithm inserted in the microprocessor which allows a high switching speed between the operator channel and the public channel, avoiding continuous interruptions or undesired trigger effects (Larsen effect.)
The operator station consists of a solid ABS structure, with reduced dimensions (less than half of an A4 size sheet) without giving up an attractive design. The compact dimensions facilitate the positioning of the product in the doors equipped with other electronic devices such as PCs and video terminals. In addition, the interface is equipped with a dynamic 35 cm long flexible stem microphone, with LED indicating the on / off status. The length of the stem and the sensitivity of the microphone capsule allow to maintain a normal tone of voice during the conversation, even at very close distances. This allows the operator to move freely to carry out checkout or data entry operations.
The station is completed by an integrated speaker and the on / off and volume level adjustment buttons, both on the operator and on the public side. On the back of the operator station, in addition to the controls for configuring the ‘HALF-DUPLEX’ function, there are connections relating to the power supply, microphone and speaker on the public side. The system manager, operating only from the operator’s side, can therefore act on all ITC4000 settings and on all connections.
Stand-by function and listening quality
A classic problem for people, when they are faced with an operator ‘separated’ by a glass or a wall, is the intelligibility of speech. This is why Paso ITC4000 relies heavily on the quality of the C401-B speaker made of aluminium, particularly robust and also suitable for vandal-proof applications (railway and subway stations, as well as night pharmacies.)
Finally, the intercom station has the STAND-BY function, which deactivates the station after a certain period of inactivity, with the possibility of both automatic and manual reactivation.
Practicality and quality not to encourage social distancing, but to make it – if possible – more comfortable, in the knowledge that certain prudential measures can prove to be powerful weapons not only against Covid-19, but against any further challenge that may arise.
