2019: a year of (digital) transformation

Our warmest wishes for the new year are joined by a brief overview of the top technological trends of 2019. Needless to say, much – actually, everything – is centered around digital processes and augmented experiences.

Between data control, predictive analytics, virtual reality and automation, 2019 begins with favorable auspices for technological prosperity, opening the doors to corporate and professional strategies that have yet to be interpreted. In the wake of the digital transformation and the opportunities (and complications, too) that come with it, we’ll start this new round of the Connessioni newsletter with a brief reflection on the technological trends of 2019, which have a lot to do with the market of systems integration and AV solutions and which we will certainly see first hand at Integrated Systems Europe (Amsterdam, 5-8 February 2019).

According to what Gartner published in the report “Top 10 strategic technology trends for 2019”, this new year will be defined by:

  1. Autonomous Things
  2. Augmented Analytics
  3. AI-Driven Development
  4. Digital Twin
  5. Empowered Edge
  6. Immersive Experience
  7. Blockchain
  8. Smart Spaces
  9. Digital Ethics
  10. Privacy and Quantum Computing

A common thread among the entire top 10, ready to significantly impact the market for the next five years, is the idea of a future full of smart devices capable of providing comprehensive digital services that are increasingly specialized. “A concept we call ‘intelligent digital mesh’ – explains David Cearley, Gartner Distinguished Vice President Analyst -, where the adjective ‘intelligent’ refers to the new frontiers of artificial intelligence, the term ‘digital’ involves the sphere of the immersive experience, while with ‘mesh’ we mean the universe of connections between people, business, devices, content and services.”

Beyond autonomous “objects,” such as drones, robots, vehicles and other horizons related to IoT and artificial intelligence, we will follow the evolution of immersive experiences and new ways of interaction between things, people and networks with particular interest. In fact, according to predictions from analysts, by 2028 AR (Augmented Reality), MR (Mixed Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) applications will radically change our way of perceiving the world and, in 2022, 70% of companies will be experimenting with immersive technologies for consumer or professional use, while 25% will already have begun their production.

We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if these projections become reality and, in the meanwhile, we’ll shift gears towards this digital, immersive future.

Happy New Year from all the staff at Connessioni!
